Business Events Industry Celebrates FTC Crackdown on Business Impersonators… The Exhibitions and Conferences Alliance (ECA) is celebrating the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) decision to increase penalties for scammers impersonating businesses or government entities, including those who sell fake attendee lists or hotel rooms to patrons of business events.

Association Forum Calling for Volunteers… Association Forum is “seeking passionate individuals with diverse perspectives who can drive change to serve as volunteers for the April 1, 2024–March 31, 2025, volunteer term.” February 21 is the application deadline. Apply here.

Global Meetings Industry Day Coming April 11… Last year the annual day of industry advocacy saw record engagement, with 45 million impressions worldwide on social media and 70 events held in 35 countries, according to U.S. Travel Association. Find more information here.

New Orleans’ Convention Center Recycling Tons of Mardi Gras Beads, Trash… Morial Convention Center staff and recycle partner REALCYCLE gathered more than 5,400 pounds of beads and items thrown from floats to parade-goers, plus more than 300 pounds of plastic bottles and aluminum cans to be recycled, repurposed, or reused.

HOTS Liverpool Worldwide… On February 17, Liverpool sent out a starting lineup of 11 players of different nationalities in a 4-1 English Premier League win at Brentford. Reuters and Men in Blazers report it was the first-time players from 11 countries made up the Reds’ starting team in a league game in their 132-year history. German manager Juergen Klopp put Ireland’ Caoimhin Kelleher in goal, with the back line featuring Northern Irishman Conor Bradley, France's Ibrahima Konate, Dutchman Virgil van Dijk and Scotland's Andrew Robertson. England’s Curtis Jones, Argentina’s Alexis Mac Allister and Japan’s Wataru Endo formed the midfield. Forwards consisted of Portugal’s Diogo Jota, Colombia’s Luis Diaz and Uruguay’s Darwin Nunez before substitute Mohamed Salah of Egypt came on. To lift a line from a famous Liverpudlian foursome, Reds’ players may not stem from across the universe, but they do come from across the world.
